Definitions (S-Z)
Sealants
Placing tiny resins in the deep grooves of the teeth
prevents decay on the chewing surfaces. This is especially important to do
when the teeth first come into the mouth.
Sleep Apnea
The complete cessation of breathing while sleeping.
Working closely with pulmonologists who, through sleep studies, determine the patient’s
needs, we can make a comfortable oral appliance to greatly reduce or eliminate apnea.
Solutions for Snoring
To eliminate snoring, we can make a comfortable oral
appliance to use at night. Your sleep partner may appreciate it!
Space Maintainers
If a baby tooth is lost too early, it is important
to fabricate a brace to maintain the space. If this is not done, space will
be lost, and some of the adult teeth may be too crowded.
TMJ
This refers to the joint which opens and closes the jaw.
This is a common area of muscular pain and spasm. To treat the pain, we use
various combinations of muscle relaxation techniques and medicines.
Tooth Colored Filling
We can now place tooth colored fillings rather than
metallic ones! Better looking than silver fillings, tooth colored fillings
are bonded directly to the teeth and are, therefore, more retentive and longer lasting.
Tooth Replacement
We use several ways to replace missing teeth:
Fixed bridges, removable dentures, and implants.
Whitening
Tooth whitening is a simple, non-invasive procedure which
will make the teeth whiter and more youthful in appearance. We make comfortable
customized trays that fit on the teeth. Teeth can be whitened easily in the
comfort and privacy of the home.
Veneers
We make beautiful porcelain restorations that are bonded
to the teeth to change the size, shape, or color. Usually, this can be done
without
any drilling of the teeth!
